“ISKCON leaders responsible for setting priorities in Srila Prabhupada’s movement grossly neglected the proper care of ISKCON’s children. This neglect did much to bring about the sufferings reported in this case, and therefore all of ISKCON leadership must accept its share of the burden for what happened in the Vrndavana gurukula. Although Dhanurdhara Maharaja is responsible for his misbehavior, he was not singly responsible for the neglect and tyranny in the school. ISKCON leaders demonstrated appalling neglect of social concerns, and this was very apparent in the dearth of resources provided to the Vrndavana gurukula.” http://harekrsna.com/sun/editorials/08-06/editorials565.htm - ‘Official Decision on the Case of Dhanurdhara Maharaja,’ October 28, 1999 by ISKCON Central Office of Child Protection (ICOCP)
“I regret to inform you [Dhanurdhara Swami] that your former gurukula student, Ananda, just shot himself in the head last Thursday. Remember what you did to him so long ago…it may not be alive to you any more but I assure you it was still very much alive to him…At his funeral the people in his life who were not devotees mentioned repeatedly that much of his unhappiness and suffering in life was attributed to his upbringing. Over and over I heard this from strangers as I slunk further in my chair not wanting to be associated with "them", those people from his past…you. This was still very much alive in his life.” http://www.chakra.org/discussions/PersonalMay22_06.html - from Open Letter To Dhanurdhara Swami by Shakuntala devi dasi
“Many seem to appreciate Shakuntala stepping up to publicly challenge Dhanurdhara to make amends for his actions towards kulis like Ananda who was tormented by and furies at DD [Dhanurdhara Swami]. While many feel Shakuntala was/is showing real initiative in calling on DD, I find it eclipsing the far more thorough actions taken by ISKCON’s CPA: Child Protection Agency. Dozens of devotees put in months, over the course of years, at a cost of (tens of ) thousands to ‘persecute’ Dhanurdhara. Yet, given ISKCON’s obsession for “confidentiality,” most kulis (like most everyone else) never came to appreciate the full extent of their work or the corresponding steps abusers like Dhanurdhara then made to try and rectify their past with kulis. The result: Shakuntala gets the lion’s share of credit for ‘finally doing something’ while the millions spent on this same effort by ISKCON goes unrecognized.” http://www.harekrsna.com/sun/editorials/08-06/editorials609.htm - from Movement’s Neglect: Ananda’s Death Sentence by RAGHUNATHA ANUDASA
